Discrimination Against Asian Americans

Courtesy of Helen Zia/Asian Americans on PBS

Asian Americans in the United States are no strangers to racism. Just think of the Japanese internment camps of WWII. And racial slurs and stereotypes have dogged Asian Americans for years, too.

Today, a rise in racist language and behavoir across the country coincides with the onset of the coronavirus. Journalist and activist Helen Zia joins us to talk about the history of discrimination against Asian Americans, what this moment tells us about racial progress in the U.S. and how far our country still has to go.

Starting Monday, May 11, 7 p.m. MDT, PBS will air the first episode of the five-part documentary “Asian Americans.”
