The History and Mystery of the Bicycle

The bicycle is one of those inventions that hasn’t really changed much. Its status in society, though? That’s a battleground.

In a new book, Jody Rosen chronicles the history of the bicycle, charting its changing place in culture along the way. Today you might associate bicycles with left-leaning politics and environmentalism, but once upon a time biking was the pastime of wealthy British dandies. And even though it feels like Utah roads are dominated by cars, in much of the world getting around on two wheels is king.

Jody Rosen talks to us about Two Wheels Good: The History and Mystery of the Bicycle. Jenn Oxborrow, Executive Director of Bike Utah, joins us to share a local perspective on Utah’s bike culture.
