These are some of the questions that writer and critic Claire Dederer takes on in her new book, “Monsters: A Fan’s Dilemma.” For Dederer, her questions started with the acclaimed filmmaker Roman Polanski — who was charged with raping a 13-year-old girl in the 1970s. Dederer was repulsed by knowledge of the crime, yet she continued to find worth — even intense beauty — in his movies. She was both troubled and fascinated, so she began to write. She joins us to talk about what she discovered.
