John Colapinto: 'This is the Voice'

Renee Bright / KUER

How much can you know about someone just from hearing their voice? According to journalist John Colapinto, more than you might think.

In his book, This Is the Voice, Colapinto writes that our voices convey much more than just one timbre or another – they communicate our personalities, our moods and our backgrounds. In short, he told us, our voices are us, and speaking, he reminds us, is an amazing thing to be able to do. Colapinto even says it was our talent for talking that propelled us to dominance over the rest of the animal kingdom. He joins us to talk about the voice this Friday at 12 p.m. [Rebroadcast]
