Wednesday we’re talking about a Sundance documentary about Satanists. It’s both a political and a religious movement. They don’t believe in a Satan, just the idea that he was the ultimate rebel.
Members of The Satanic Temple say they’re not out to convert you. What the black-clad, horn-wearing members do want is to demonstrate that the United States is a pluralistic country, even if it means erecting a statue of the goat demon Baphomet next to a public display of the Ten Commandments. Wednesday, we continue our Sundance coverage with a look at director Penny Lane’s latest film. It’s called Hail Satan? and it chronicles the rise and political action of this misunderstood “religion.”
Penny Lane has been making non-fiction films for more than a decade. Hail Satan? is her fourth feature length documentary. She also joined us on RadioWest to talk about Our Nixon and Nuts!Hail Satan?is in the U.S. Documentary Competition at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.
