Friday, Doug is live with filmmakers Sarah Burns and David McMahon for a conversation about their new PBS documentary "The Central Park Five." In 1989, a white woman was brutally raped and beaten in New York's Central Park. Five black and Latino teens from Harlem were pilloried by the press and convicted by the criminal justice system. But then in 2002, the real rapist confessed and DNA evidence helped exonerate the five men. Next week, we're screening the film as part of our Through the Lens documentary series.
On Wednesday, April 3, RadioWest, Utah Film Center and KUED Channel 7 present "The Central Park Five" at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center in downtown Salt Lake City. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with seats available on a first come basis. The screening begins at 7:00 p.m. Sarah Burns and David McMahon will be on-hand for a Q&A immediately following the film. On April 17, 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. MT, The New York Times will host a live "Times Talk" called "Justice and the Central Park Five." It's an on-line discussion hosted by Times reporter Jim Dwyer.
