The planet’s youngest generations will bear the weight of climate change. So some young people are fighting back — by suing the United States government.
In 2015, 21 young people — some of them children — sued the federal government. Their claim? That the U.S. has violated their constitutional rights to life, liberty and safety by failing to address the climate crisis. These plaintiffs say that it’s people like themselves who will suffer the most because of the government’s inaction. The documentary Youth v Gov follows these young activists as their case makes its way through the court system. We’ll talk with director Christi Cooper, along with Julia Olson, chief legal counsel for the plaintiffs this Friday at 11 a.m. about the film, the passionate young people they’ve met and how their case is shaping up.
