Through The Lens: 'Batman'

cinemablend.com

As a young Batman fanatic, Michael Uslan hated the campy Adam West 'Batman' TV show of the 1960s.

For him, the real Caped Crusader was the brooding, flawed superhero of the comic books — the version that Uslan helped bring back in 1989 as executive producer of Tim Burton's "Batman."

By the late '80s, Batman's popularity had slumped and the public hadn't seen Bruce Wayne suit up for over 20 years. Creators Bob Kane's and Bill Finger's original crimefighter was largely unknown by the average movie goer until Uslan and Burton created "Batman" with Michael Keaton in the title role and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. This darker figure is the Batman we've come to expect today — and keep seeing in new iterations on the big screen. Join us this Friday at noon for a conversation about the impact and legacy of “Batman."

Join us for a screening of “Batman” on Wednesday, July 6, at 7 p.m. Details here.
