Fasting: The Oldest Cure in the World

Renee Bright
/
KUER

If you’re online at all, you’ve probably heard the news: fasting dramatically improves your health, even cures diseases. Will it really?

Steve Hendricks says that, sure, the practice’s biggest fans can overhype fasting. But, still, the scientific community needs to listen up, because the evidence is clear: fasting really does make you healthier, does fend off disease and it’s been doing so for as long as humans have had to endure hunger. Hendricks himself fasts and this Friday at noon, he’ll join us to talk about the history and science of fasting.

One spoiler: in the 1870s, there was a man who fasted for 40 days — twice.
