That language is called Nushu. It was written with sharpened bamboo sticks, dipped in ink. The new documentary “Hidden Letters” explores the history and the present of Nushu, which has since been much commercialized in China. Still, people continue to be drawn to it, and the film sees two women considering Nushu as they attempt to reconcile their lives and positions in Chinese society. This Friday at 11 a.m., director Violet Du Feng joins us to talk about her film “Hidden Letters.”
Please join KUER and the Utah Film Center for a screening of “Hidden Letters” at the Salt Lake City Main Branch on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m., followed by a Q&A with director Violet Du Feng. The event is free but an RSVP is required.
