A Year-Long Misadventure Through the Grand Canyon

Brian Albers
/
KUER

Kevin Fedarko’s best friend said it would be easy: Hike from one end of the Grand Canyon to the other. He said it would be “a walk in the park.” It wasn’t.

Those few experts who’ve completed such a journey say traversing the entirety of the Grand Canyon is about as tough as it gets. But Kevin — and his companion Pete McBride — didn’t know that. They spent more than a year, on foot, navigating nearly impossible terrain. Yet, as they picked their way through, their appreciation for this wilderness grew as they explored parts of the canyon few have ever seen, became closer to its true history and learned about threats to its future.

Kevin Fedarko will sign copies of his book at the King’s English on Thursday, May 30 at 6:00 p.m. More information here.
