When the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in 2015, many conservatives worried that the law opened the door for polgamists and polyamorists to also have their unions sanctioned by law.

The LDS Church ended the practice of polygamy more than a century ago, but author and activist Carol Lynn Pearson says the idea is “alive and unwell” in Mormon theology. According to doctrine, a man can still be spiritually sealed to multiple wives and those plural marriages are a reality in heaven. Pearson has gathered stories from more than 8000 faithful and former LDS Church members, and joins Doug Tuesday to explain why she says polygamy is still haunting Mormons today.

Monday, Doug talks with director Amy Berg about her film Prophet’s Prey. It’s an exposé of the rise and fall of Warren Jeffs, the self-declared prophet of the FLDS Church. The film recounts the dogged efforts of numerous people—including the writer Jon Krakauer, and Sam Brower, a private investigator—to shed light on Jeffs’ incredibly secretive polygamous community and ultimately bring the man to justice.
