Renee Bright

Water policy shapes how we live in the West, and for years, we’ve carried on, changing very little in our water consumption, even in the face of megadroughts, increasing population density and shrinking lakes and rivers.

This is, partially, because water policy can feel arcane, complicated, outdated and difficult to understand.

Today, there is a pressing need to understand and change water policy. We talk with water law expert, Dan McCool, about the fundamental flaws in our approach to water use and how we can shape a better water policy.

GUESTS:

  • Gregory Smoak is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Utah and Director of the American West Center.
  • Dan McCool is a Professor Emeritus of Political Science, focused on water law and water resources, at the University of Utah.
