The FX adaptation of Jon Krakauer’s 2003 book Under the Banner of Heaven premiers on Hulu this week, and we’re talking about it with its creator, Dustin Lance Black.

Krakauer’s book juxtaposed the 1984 murders Brenda Lafferty and her baby daughter Erica, with the early history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In Under the Banner of Heaven, Krakauer’s thesis is that “faith is the very antithesis of reason.” The FX miniseries follows a similar pattern but complicates some of Krakauer’s ideas. We’ll explore those complications this Friday at noon and Saturday at noon.
