Richard Reeves on 'Of Boys and Men'

Brookings Institution Press

The scholar Richard Reeves says boys and men are in crisis, and that it’s time for us to start taking the problem seriously.

Reeves doesn’t dispute the role that sexism plays in curbing opportunities for women — especially at the top of society, where female CEOs and candidates for president remain hard to find. But Reeves urges readers to look below that sphere and start paying more attention to middle- and working-class men. There, he says, we’ll find higher suicide rates, fewer college graduates and changing systems that no longer encourage men to thrive. This Friday at noon, Richard Reeves joins us to talk about why these men’s struggles matter.

Richard Reeves is the author of “Of Boys and Men: Why the Modern Male is Struggling , Why It Matters and What to Do About It” [Amazon|Bookshop].
