Reza Aslan and 'An American Martyr in Persia'

22-year-old Iranian Mahsa Amini’s death in police custody sparked protests throughout the country. If this unrest leads to revolution, author Reza Aslan says it would be the fourth time in Iran’s recent history.

Aslan’s newest book is the story of an earlier Iranian revolution as told through one man: American Howard Baskerville. He was a Christian missionary who traveled to Iran in 1907 to teach English and spread the gospel. But he found himself in a country in the midst of upheaval, and soon, Baskerville joined the battle, fighting for democracy alongside Iranians. He was killed in 1909 and is revered in Iran to this day. This Friday at noon, Reza Aslan joins us to talk about the life, times and impact of Howard Baskerville.

Reza Aslan will be at the Salt Lake City Public Library on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. for a lecture and book signing of his book "An American Martyr in Persia: The Epic Life and Tragic Death of Howard C. Baskerville” [Amazon|Bookshop].

The event is free but registration is requested.
