John Hendrickson on Making Peace with a Stutter

Renee Bright
/
KUER

In 2019, The Atlantic published a story by John Hendrickson about Joe Biden’s struggle with stuttering. And it forced John to reconcile with his own stutter, too.

After his article came out, other people who stutter began reaching out to Hendrickson and sharing their stories with him. Their experiences prompted him to begin writing about his own experiences with stuttering. In a new book, Hendrickson allows readers deep inside his life — reflecting on his battles with depression, bullying, substance abuse and more. Along the way, he investigates the science of stuttering and controversial efforts to cure it. John Hendrickson joins us this Friday at noon.

GUESTS:

  • John Hendrickson, author of “Life on Delay: Making Peace with a Stutter” [Amazon|Indiebound|Bookshop].
  • Courtney Byrd, Professor of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin.

Airdate: Friday, Feb. 10, 2023 at 12 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m.
