On the night of that massacre, 17 surviving children, thought too young to be witnesses, were distributed among Mormon settlers in Southern Utah. The children were later returned to their families and did stand witness – leaving a gloom over Utah, Latter-day Saints and the victims. Our guest, Barbara Jones Brown, co-author of the new book “Vengeance is Mine: The Mountain Meadows Massacre and its Aftermath,” says it’s important for everyone to talk about the story. She and co-author Richard E. Turley join us today at 11 a.m. to talk about the moment Utah and the LDS church were in at the time of the massacre — and a letter that arrived too late.
The authors will be signing books at Ken Sanders Rare Books at the Leonardo on Wednesday, August 16th at 6:30 p.m.
