They’ve been friends for decades, and during the Covid-19 pandemic, they leaned on each other for support. Brendan’s father was dying, and Judi was lonely. So, Brendan got a recorder, went to Judi’s place and started asking questions, about a lifetime of performing Shakespeare. Judi Dench has been Cleopatra, Lady Macbeth, Ophelia, among many others. Brendan wanted to know how she approached the roles, the plays, her interpretations of famous speeches and more. Together, they came up with an unusually personal book. Brendan O’Hea told us it’s not a how-to book on acting; instead, it’s an offering — from one of the world’s greatest performers on the playwright whose works, Brendan says, are infinite.
