The Daddy Shift

Monday, we're talking about the growing role fathers are playing in childcare. A recent study found that mothers are now the primary breadwinner in 40% of US households. That can mean it's dad who's staying home with the kids, though that doesn't always square with cultural expectations. It's not uncommon for dads to hear awkward questions like "When are you going back to work?" or "Where's mommy?" We're joined by journalist Jeremy Adam Smith for a look at the at the economics and at the cultural and personal effects of "The Daddy Shift."

Jeremy Adam Smith is web editor at UC Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center and the author of The Daddy Shift [Amazon/Indiebound] and Rad Dad  [Amazon/Indiebound]

We Want Your Stories

Dads, we want to hear your stories from the frontlines of childcare. Have you had awkward moments with strangers/friends/family who didn't know what to make of your role? What are the challenges and pleasures of being a stay-at-home dad? Comment below or email your stories. You can also call 801-585-WEST (9378). Leave a message between now and the show or call while we're live on Monday.
