Nov 8, 2018

Behind Vladimir Nabokov's brilliant and disturbing novel Lolita is a true story of a girl who was kidnapped and abused by a middle-aged man. Journalist Sarah Weinman new book is about The Real Lolita.

When journalist Sarah Weinman first read Nobokov’s infamous novel Lolita, she was of course disturbed by the story of a 12-year-old girl kidnapped and abused by a middle-aged sexual predator. But she was also in awe of his brilliant prose. Years later Weinman learned of Sally Horner, a girl whose real-life case eerily paralleled Nobokov’s fiction. In a new book, Weinman tells Horner’s story, and asks how this true crime inspired Nobokov. She joins us Thursday to talk about The Real Lolita.

Sarah Weinman is a journalist and a crime fiction authority. Her new book is called The Real Lolita: The Kidnapping of Sally Horner and the Novel That Scandalized the World. [Indie bookstores|Amazon|Audible]
