Through The Lens: 'Spaceship Earth'

Courtesy of Sundance Institute

Deep in the Arizona desert, there’s an enormous glass terrarium that houses a replica, in miniature, of the earth’s ecosystems. It’s called Biosphere 2.

Created by a visionary group of countercultural characters, the biosphere was a testing ground to explore what it would take to establish self-sufficient colonies on other planets. Eight people were chosen to live in the biosphere, sealed off from the rest of the world for two years, and, perhaps surprisingly, it worked — mostly. Filmmaker Matt Wolf’s documentary about the Biosphere 2 experiment is called Spaceship Earth and he joins us to talk about it.

To participate in our monthly film series Through the Lens, you can rent Spaceship Earth online here, and join us for a livestream conversation with director Matt Wolf on Friday, May 15 at 6 p.m. MDT. Look for details on UtahFilmCenter.org.

Join us Friday, May 15, at 6 p.m., for a livestream Q&A with director Matt Wolf and some of the film's producers.
