The Legend Of Walter Mercado

Courtesy of Sundance Institute

Through the 1980s to the early 2000s, astrologer and TV personality Walter Mercado was a household name in Latinx homes – reaching, at his peak, an estimated 120 million people with his daily horoscopes. Then, in 2007, Mercado disappeared.

With their new Netflix documentary Mucho Mucho Amor: The Legend of Walter Mercado, directors Kareem Tabsch and Cristina Costantini bring Mercado back into the public eye, revealing how a young man from Puerto Rico became one of the most famous individuals in the Spanish speaking world. As the directors chronicle his journey from Puerto Rican sugarcane fields to international stardom – and his role as a vital figure against homophobia in Latin society – the film gives Mercado the revival he was seeking all along. (Rebroadcast)

Walter Mercado passed away on November 2, 2019.
