Reclaiming Abortion Rights

Photo by Dave Fayram, CC via Flickr

Tuesday, our guest is feminist writer KathaPollitt, whose latest book aims at reclaiming abortion rights. Pollitt argues the pro-choice movement has become too defensive in making the case for a woman’s right to end her pregnancy. She says abortion has always existed and that it’s a normal part of women’s reproductive lives. In fact, nearly 1 in 3 women in America will have an abortion by age 45. Pollitt is coming to Utah, and joins Doug to discuss why she says abortion is good for society.

Katha Pollitt is an essayist, critic and poet. She's a columnist for the liberal political magazine The Nation. Her book is called Pro: Reclaiming Abortion Rights [Indiebound|Amazon] and Virginity or Death! And Other Social and Political Issues of Our Time [Indiebound|Amazon]

Pollitt will be in Utah on Thursday, September 10. She'll speak at The Salt Lake City Public Library at 7:00 p.m. as part of their The Nation 150th Anniversary Speaker Series. [More Information]
