How can a simple column of metal capture the world’s imagination? Easy: Put it in Utah’s Red Rock Country and suggest it’s the work of extraterrestrial beings.
In a single week, a metal obelisk in a remote part of southeastern Utah was discovered, rose to international fame, turned regular people into art tourists and was then removed with extreme prejudice. The obelisk offered a pleasing distraction during trying times. It also displayed the power of art to provoke reactions and jumpstart conversations. We’ll explore the mystery of the obelisk this Friday at 11 a.m. MST.
