Deep in the Arizona desert, there’s an enormous glass terrarium that houses a replica, in miniature, of the earth’s ecosystems. It’s called Biosphere 2.
Created by a visionary group of countercultural characters, the biosphere was a testing ground to explore what it would take to establish self-sufficient colonies on other planets. Eight people were chosen to live in the biosphere, sealed off from the rest of the world for two years, and, perhaps surprisingly, it worked—mostly. Spaceship Earth, filmmaker Matt Wolf’s documentary about the Biosphere 2 experiment, is showing at Sundance this year, and he joins us Friday at 10 a.m. to talk about it.
Matt Wolf's documentary Spaceship Earth is showing in the U.S. Documentary Competition at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. The film's final screening at the festival is Friday, January 31, at 6 p.m. at the Redstone Cinemas in Park City.
