RadioWest and Utah Film Center have partnered to present the best in documentary filmmaking. We talk with established and new directors who are changing the way audiences see the world and then screen their films.

Director Aaron Schimberg’s new film Chained for Life examines society’s perceptions of and obsessions with beauty in a sometimes artificial, often funny and always unsentimental way. Schimberg is coming to Salt Lake for a screening of Chained for Life and a Q&A with Doug as part of our Through the Lens series with the Utah Film Center on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

The film Chained for Life opens with this quote from film critic Pauline Kael: “Actors and actresses who are beautiful start with an enormous advantage, because we love to look at them.” But what of the actors who aren’t beautiful? How do audiences feel about them? Director Aaron Schimberg has created a sometimes artificial, often funny and always unsentimental film (within a film) about beauty that features a pack of familiar and yet unique characters: the German auteur, the pretty starlet and the disfigured (possible) love interest.

Schimberg is coming to Salt Lake for a screening of Chained for Life and a Q&A with Doug as part of our Through the Lens series with the Utah Film Center on Wednesday, Nov. 13. For more information, go to www.kuer.org or www.utahfilmcenter.org.
