In his latest book, the scholar Jared Diamond looks at how nations deal with moments of crisis. A lot of countries seem to be struggling these days, and the United States is no exception. Although America possesses great strengths, the country is at a turning point because we’ve lost the art of political compromise. Diamond says that we can cope with these big national problems the same way we do with personal ones: by looking in the mirror, acknowledging our faults, and learning from the past.

Jared Diamond is a professor of geography at UCLA and the author of many books, including Guns, Germs and Steel, and The World Until Yesterday. His latest is Upheaval: Turning Points for Nations in Crisis [Indie bookstores|Amazon|Audible].
