Quinn — along with the other members of the September Six, as they came to be called — was ousted from the Church because of his controversial scholarship. Among his discoveries was the fact that plural marriage persisted for some time in Mormonism, even after the faith banned the practice. Quinn pioneered a tradition of more honest, humanistic inquiry into LDS history, retaining his faith even after excommunication. He died in April, 2021. This Friday at noon, and Saturday at 11 a.m., historian Benjamin E. Park joins us to talk about the life and legacy of Michael Quinn.
Benjamin E. Park is organizing a conference dedicated to Michael Quinn's work on March 25 in Salt Lake City. You can learn more about D. Michael Quinn: The Life and Times of a Mormon Historian here.
