'Wild New World' with Dan Flores

When they arrived in North America 13,000 years ago, humans entered an environment teeming with animal life. But their success here had a devastating effect on other creatures.

In a new book, the historian Dan Flores presents a deep history of humans and animals in America. That history is shaped like a layer cake, with a period of relative balance sandwiched between waves of eradication unlike anything world had seen before or since. What it comes down to is our relationship with animals, and how the stories we tell about that relationship shape our shared existence. Flores’s book is called Wild New World, and he joins us this Friday at noon and again on Saturday at 11 a.m. to talk about it.

Airdate: Friday, Dec. 30, 2022 at 12 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 31 at 11 a.m.
