LDS Church and the GSL, Part II

Renee Bright
/
KUER

On Wednesday, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that it will donate a permanent yearly transfer of 20,000 acre feet of water to the Great Salt Lake.

Our guest, BYU ecologist Ben Abbott, calls it a very big and significant drop in the bucket. But, just as important, he says it’s a symbolic move that recognizes the rights of the Great Salt Lake and sets a much needed example. This Friday at noon, Ben Abbott and Leia Larsen from The Salt Lake Tribune are joining us live to discuss the significance of the church’s move and what comes next for the Great Salt Lake.

GUESTS:

  • Paul Alan Cox | Executive Director of the non-profit research institute, Brain Chemistry Labs.
  • Ben Abbott |  @thermokarst Assistant professor of ecosystem ecology at Brigham Young University.
  • Leia Larsen | @LeiaLarsen Water and land use reporter for The Salt Lake Tribune.

Airdate: Friday, Mar. 17, 2023 at 12 p.m. and Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11 a.m.
