Like a lot of things in Martínez's life, it was his passion for baseball that landed him in public radio. His curiosity and love of the sport led to a career covering and traveling with the L.A. Dodgers for 10 years, which, in turn, led to an invitation to co-host KPCC's popular morning show. Sports and public radio aren't the most obvious of pairings, but that was one of the many stereotypes Martínez had to contend with on the road to the Morning Edition host seat.
This week, we sat down with A Martínez at the S.J. Quinney College of Law for a conversation about public radio and identity, why curiosity is the root of a good conversation and what makes a great baseball city.
