Through the Lens: ‘Squaring the Circle (The Story of Hipgnosis)’

The Utah Film Center

What do Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon,” Led Zeppelin’s “Houses of the Holy” and “Elegy” by The Nice have in common? All are iconic albums — visually, as well as musically.

These album covers were also created by the London based design studio Hipgnosis. Of course, these albums are about the music, but their artistic covers were meant to be a way for fans to get into the music. Friday at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., we are discussing the work of Hipgnosis and the experience of album art with the music journalist Martin Popoff, and the documentary “Squaring the Circle (The Story of Hipgnosis.)”

Please join KUER and the Utah Film Center for a free screening of “Squaring the Circle (The Story of Hipgnosis)” at the Salt Lake City Main Branch on Wednesday, June 14, at 7 p.m., followed by a Q&A between Doug, local artist Jann Haworth and University of Utah Professor John Costa.

The event is free but an RSVP is required.
