If you find yourself fixating on something you want but know you don’t need, it’s not your fault; it’s the “scarcity brain” at work.

The author Michael Easter says that our ancient human ancestors had to fight for survival. Resources like food and shelter, tools, even power and information were hard to come by and hard-won. That meant their brains were wired to seek and crave. Today, though, for many of us, resources are abundant — but our wiring hasn’t changed. So, says Easter, we lust after more, always more. But he’s got a few ideas about how we might blunt the force of such cravings. He’ll join Friday at noon to talk about them.
