Lessons from a Year on Ozempic

Bundle of Ozempic Pens
Bundle of Ozempic Pens

Johann Hari spent a year on the weight-loss drug Ozempic, and it worked — better than he could’ve imagined. But the treatment left him deeply conflicted.

It started with a party in 2022 — the first Johann had been to since the worst days of the pandemic. He’d put on some weight, but he expected the same would be true for the other guests, so he wasn’t too worried. When he arrived, though, he was shocked to see a party full of thin people, “gaunt” people, as he tells it. It was then that a friend told him what was really going on: They were all on the weight-loss drug Ozempic. That was enough for Johann, and he decided to try it, too. Now, he’s out with a book about the benefits and risks of a series of drugs that he believes will be as consequential as antibiotics and Prozac.

Johann Hari |Author and a journalist. His new book is called “Magic Pill: The Extraordinary Benefits and Disturbing Risks of the New Weight-Loss Drugs” [Amazon | Bookshop].
