Representatives and their family members start making their way to their seats in the House at the Utah State Capitol on the first day of the 2025 Utah legislative session in Salt Lake City, Jan. 21, 2025.

With the new year comes a new legislative session — and a new tone.

For the past two years, the Utah Legislature quickly moved through controversial bills in the first two weeks. This year, the mood is different, and lawmakers are easing into the session more slowly. This session will address bills on immigration, energy, housing and higher education. Key lawmakers to watch are House Majority Whip Karianne Lisonbee and Utah’s youngest lawmaker, Tyler Clancy. Tune in on Wednesday to hear our panel — “State Street” co-hosts Saige Miller and Sean Higgins, along with Salt Lake Tribune reporter Robert Gehrke — discuss what a legislative session looks like under a second Trump administration.
