Some are saying yes, it was something we did, or maybe several things — all related to Utah’s conservative politics. It was just this year that the legislature banned LGBT pride flags on public property and disallowed transgender college students from sleeping in dorms aligned with their gender identities. But Sundance officials have said politics had nothing to do with the move; they just want the festival to grow, and they say Boulder is the place to do it. Meanwhile, some Utah officials are already talking about creating a new film festival. We’ll answer all we can as the Beehive State attempts to move on from a decades-long relationship.
