In “Abundance,” Klein and Thompson diagnose the problems afflicting politically blue bastions across the country. One of the most significant barriers to new housing, they say, is NIMBYism (Not In My Back Yard). Then there are zoning regulations, housing ordinances, lengthy public comment periods — the list goes on. We’ll talk about how these policies, while perhaps well-meaning, impede construction, and how they may be addressed. We’ll also ask how Salt Lake City, in particular, has managed to build so much housing so fast, and whether it’s going to be enough to deal with the housing crisis.
