The book is called “Stitched,” and it’s about competitive quilters in Utah. Betty Lou Dearden is a longtime member of the Ogden Quilters Association, and when she and her fellow quilters learn that the biggest quilting competition will be held in Utah, they team up with two young gay men to win it all. McCann says that he was told again and again that a story about older women in this part of the country would have a hard time finding readers. So far, that hasn’t been the case. He’s joining us to talk about the book, his columns, his life as a gay man who left the LDS Church but still loves Mormon culture, family and the great artform known as quilting.
