Worried About AI? This Documentary Might Help

Oscar winning documentary director Daniel Roher was terrified of artificial intelligence. So, he made a film to work through his anxiety. What he learned made him feel better – and also worse.

That’s because you get wildly different answers when you ask the experts about the future of AI. In one camp, you’ve got the prophets of doom. These are the people who say that artificial intelligence may kill us all in a decade. If you’re looking for something more hopeful, don’t worry, because the optimists abound, too. They’ll tell you about an AI future with the best healthcare you can imagine and a world where your kids can be artists if they want to. Which matters a lot to someone like Roher: he and his wife were expecting their first child during filming. He and his co-director Charlie Tyrell are joining us to talk about their documentary “The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist.” The future, they learned – good or bad – is really up to all of us.

You can join us for a screening of “The AI Doc” on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the Utah Film Center. Here are the details.
