The Mastermind Behind Oil in the Uinta Basin

Brian Albers
/
KUER

Transporting oil out of the Uinta Basin isn’t easy. The place is remote and the roads aren’t great. But a Texas oil man named Jim Finley is trying to change all that.

One of our guests is the journalist Chris D’Angelo. He says that “Finley waltzed in there and changed the game in a way that people have been trying to do for a long time.” He’s buying up transloading facilities and training truck drivers at the local college — and trying to get a railway built — all in an attempt to get oil from the Uinta Basin to the Gulf Coast to the tune of 250,000 barrels per day. Our other guest, activist Sam Van Wetter, says Finley’s efforts will change the region for the worse. Join us for a conversation about oil in the Uinta Basin.
