Polyamory is having a bit of a moment right now. We wanted to learn more about the history of having more than one romantic partner.

The scholar Christopher Gleason told us that something like 4% or 5% of Americans are giving polyamory a try. But the practice isn’t new, and its recent history may be surprising. He says polyamory in this country is a product of sexual dissent. Christopher Gleason’s new book is called “American Poly,” and he joined us to talk about it.
